According to Martin Seligman and further extended by Sheryl Sandberg with few examples,, there are 3 P's that will stall your recovery in facing adversity and challenges in life. And those are, Personalization, Pervasiveness, and Permanence.
Mourning over thraumatic events will cause angst, anxiety, and the thought of what could have been done to avoid these events seem to be haunting individuals a lot. The truth is, we minimixe the exposure, we 'try' but the probability of these happening will always be 1, and that means you actually have no absolute control. Kun Faa Ya Kun. Building resilience includes you letting go of the 'who to blame' game and make peace with the fact. Not easy, but it is a journey.
Pervasiveness. Remember those days when finding something missing from the closet seems like the only trouble you have in the world? and you tend to affect people and your other activities throughout the day later? Maybe it's the time to drop the inclusiveness of one event in all other aspects in life. When something major happening in your life, agreeable, other aspects seem to be affected as well, but that doesn't have to be that way because if we start by counting what we have than what we don't, we'll see the silver lining of events happening around us. Practicing gratitude everyday means you're smart enough to twist the inside-talk which capable of telling you of how bad life would be, could be. In fact, affective forecasting shows that we tend to overestimate the impact of future than what is actual. But you are you, you're the boss and it really is up to you to see the goodness in what happening. You either win or you either learn.
Permanence. Fair enough, good things will pass, and so do bad things. Nothing in the world is ever going to be here forever. In fact, forever is a fallacy of thought. Our life is a life brief candle. So brief that when it'll go poooooft and we'll all be gone. So, whatever happening now matters but tomorrow is not guaranteed. Why worry then? It'll pass. We all shall pass.
